Variac Transformer
Variac transformers are available in single and
three phase and their distortion free output is ideal for sensitive
electronic applications.
Types of Variacs
Click here to find out the different types of
Variacs and what applications they are used for.
Applications for Variacs
Variacs transformers are used for many different
applications but are ideal for electronic applications that are sensitive to
distortion.
Choosing a Variacs
What information do you need to know before
choosing a Variacs? Let us help in choosing the right Variacs for your
applications.
Variac Variable
Variac Transformers are sometime called Variable
Transformers because they are AC voltage controls that provide a variable AC
Voltage.
Amp Variac
Variacs range in size from 120V to 600VAC
single and three phase and fractional to 700 Amps.

Variacs |
Variac Variable is referring to
the Variacs and the variable voltage it can provide. Variacs in
many cases are called
Variable Transformers and they are an vital
workshop tool for many businesses. They are used in various applications but
you usually see them in quality control testing for electronic equipment or
in laboratories.
Variac Variable can go from
single phase 120 volts or 240 volts. If higher voltage requirements
are needed you can combined 120 volt or 240 volt units. For a 480 volt
single phase application taking two 240 volt Variacs and ganged it in
a series connection. For a
Variac three phase applications, three 120 volt units are ganged
in a wye connection which results in a 240-volt line-to-line phase assembly.
For a 380 volt or a 480 volt three 240-volt units are ganged in a wye
connection. When these variac variable are connected in a open
delta for three-phase applications, two 120-volt units are ganged for 120
volt line-to-line usage. Similarly, for a 380 and 480 volt delta
applications, two 240 volt units are used in series in each of the two legs
of the open delta assembly. As you can see higher current requirements are
met by paralleling two or more units in a ganged assembly. With the
above examples you can see how many variac variable you can have.
Variacs are designed for heavy duty
trouble free operations and you will see these workhorses still in use after
40 years of use. Negligible maintenance are required on these
variac variables usually just replacement of carbon tips and cleaning
of the commentator surface of particles and dust will ensure a considerable
long, maintenance free life of the unit.
Variacs
Variable - Applications
- Testing of over and under voltage of electrical
and electronic equipment
- Heat control for ovens, furnaces, infra-red
heaters
- Used in testing and calibration of voltmeters,
ammeters, watt meters
- Used in electronic and automatic control and
process equipment as a integral control element
- Supply voltage adjustment, boosting of low lines
and line voltage stabilization
- Voltage and current control in development and
experimental work
- Lighting control in theatres, auditoriums,
restaurants, photographic studios and darkrooms.
- Control of Dc voltage end current through
rectifiers.
